Grant: Radio Reimagined: Empowering Brooklyn Youth Through Amateur Radio & Digital Communications
Date: August 2025
Amount: $25,000
Black Girls Do Engineer Corporation (BGDE) is a national nonprofit that provides Black girls and young women with hands-on STEM opportunities. The Brooklyn chapter is launching Radio Reimagined, a program to introduce up to 50 girls ages 10-18 from underserved communities to amateur radio and digital communications.
The project will help students prepare for their FCC Technician license and learn the basics of RF, antennas, and emergency communication. They will also complete digital projects with SDR, Arduino, and packet radio, guided by engineers and a licensed amateur radio instructor. The program will finish with a community showcase and field day where students present their work.
